Question

Can an Avel be exempt from davining mincha for the Amud because of Parnasa?

Answer

Hello & Greetings

In general, the Sephardim do not go to the ‘amud’ in the year of mourning, but to say Kaddish and to get the aliyah of ‘maftir’. While there is benefit to the soul of the deceased when his son approaches the ‘amud’, and when it is a necessity, one can give it up and try to study the Torah or give charity to keep the Torah, or other things for the benefit of the soul of the deceased.

mourning

However, the Ashkenazim used to immigrate as sheliach tzibur during the year of mourning, although this is not a real obligation but a custom only, indeed a custom is also a matter not to be abolished. Therefore, if you are Ashkenazi and you pray with a minyan where you can take the amud, it is very important not to change the custom, if possible. Let us not forget that by doing so, you are also fulfilling the mitzvah of honoring a father or mother.

Attention: You should not learn from one case to another, each case must be analyzed individually. Generally speaking, it's always best to have contact with a Rabbi in person, not just virtual contact. Note that where there is a local Rabbi("Mara Deatra"), one should ask him. The answers are under the responsibility of the rabbi who responded, and not under the responsibility of the website and/or the Head of the Institution.
