Question

Shalom Rav

We want an Orthodox wedding ceremony, but we just found out that my son’s fiancée’s mother underwent a Reform conversion.

We have a problem, can you help?

Does the rabbi have any suggestions?

Thank you

Answer

Hello & Greetings

I’m really sorry to hear, I wish I could help, but unfortunately Reform conversion has no validity at all according to the Torah and Jewish law.

Whereas, in order for the conversion to be valid, it is necessary for the convert or conversion to accept the commandments of the Torah before three judges, and in Reform conversions one does not accept the commandments of the Torah as it should, and in addition the conversion is not done before a kosher court, because the Reform cannot be kosher judges, since they are epicureans and violators of the Sabbath.

The only suggestion I can make to you, which will allow your son to marry his fiancée according to Jewish law, is only if your son’s fiancée wishes to undergo an Orthodox conversion, in an Orthodox conversion court. In doing so, she will become a kosher Jew, and your son will be able to marry her in an Orthodox wedding according to the religion of Moses and Israel.

It might not be so nice for her fiancé to hear about it, because she’s sure she’s Jewish, but you have to know that without that, God forbid, the children she gives birth to will be gentiles according to Jewish law, it’s a shame to even think about it, so it’s worth investing now and making an effort to go through the conversion process according to religion and law, [if she really wants to keep the commandments], And with G-d’s help afterwards, the couple will establish a great house in Israel, a home of blessing and joy and most satisfaction from all their descendants.

It is important for me to add that the conversion process may be easier in such a situation, if your son’s fiancée knows some halacha and observes the commandments, it will be much easier for her to prepare for the conversion and accept the mitzvot, because she knows the observance of the commandments. It will also be possible to expedite the conversion process in light of this special situation, which is premarital.

Therefore, the right thing now is to turn to an Orthodox rabbi in your area who will refer them to an Orthodox conversion court, explain the situation to them and try to help you go through the conversion process in the most correct, training and fastest way.

Welcome

Attention: You should not learn from one case to another, each case must be analyzed individually. Generally speaking, it's always best to have contact with a Rabbi in person, not just virtual contact. Note that where there is a local Rabbi("Mara Deatra"), one should ask him. The answers are under the responsibility of the rabbi who responded, and not under the responsibility of the website and/or the Head of the Institution.
