Question

If I have a self wash car wash business, am I allowed to have it open on Saturday?

Answer

 Hello & Greetings

Your question is very important

From the essence of the law, there is no prohibition to keep open on Shabbat, such a business operates on Shabbat without any activity on the part of the seller. However, in order not to fail in helping Jews violate Shabbat, the business should not be left open except in a place where most of the users are gentiles, but if the majority are not gentiles, it is better to avoid operating the business on Shabbat.

In addition, it is important to make sure that the business is not recognized as a Jew’s business, because in such a situation that the name of the Jew is forbidden to operate it on Shabbat, and even the profits will be forbidden to enjoy.

In the event that the Jew’s name is on the business and everyone knows that it is the Jew’s business, it is possible to sell the business on Shabbat to a non-Jew, as suggested by the “egrot moshe”, thus avoiding a prohibition by all accounts.

Wishing you success and blessings in all your endeavors

PLEASE NOTE*

Attention: You should not learn from one case to another, each case must be analyzed individually. Generally speaking, it's always best to have contact with a Rabbi in person, not just virtual contact. Note that where there is a local Rabbi("Mara Deatra"), one should ask him. The answers are under the responsibility of the rabbi who responded, and not under the responsibility of the website and/or the Head of the Institution.
