Question

If both Aaron and Miriam chide Moses for marrying a cushite woman, why is Miriam punished and not Aaron?

Answer

Your question is very good

The commentators struggled with your question as to why only Miriam was punished and not Aaron. And in the ‘medresh Zuta’ chapter 12, wrote that the reason Aaron was not slain like Miriam was because Aaron would wear the coat one of the 8 clothes that the ‘cohen gadol’ wears and the coat (mae’el) atones on the sin of ‘loshon harah’.

Indeed, another interpretation was brought by the Seferi, that even Aaron was punished like Miriam, as it is written in the Torah, and G-d also chose them, that is, in both, Aaron and Miriam. However, Aaron was healed immediately, and the reason why Aaron was healed and Miriam was not healed, and Aaron’s punishment was not even explicitly mentioned in the Torah, because it was Miriam who started speaking slander, so her punishment was more severe.

It is only important to note that the slander they spoke was about Moshe Rabbeinu leaving his wife, not about marrying a cushite woman. As explained by Rashi and as explained in the Midrash Tanhuma.
