The date of redemption of “beitta” is known only to the Creator, and it is impossible to know this date [5] , although it is noted according to some of the methods in chazal that there were righteous people who knew the end. Accordingly, there is a well-known statement from rabbi Chaim Metzanezz [7] “on the date of the end of redemption: “Those who say, do not know. and those who know, don’t say”. [11] , and explicitly in ‘zohar hakadosh’ [12] That in each generation there is one year that is more capable of redemption than the rest of the years (and many times when they “missed” those capable years, the years turned them into exactly a time of calamity because of the cataract that we did not repent and reject the redemption[13]).   [And we are not currently entering into the prohibition issue of ” calculating the end”  [14], because there is a lot of controversy and speculation here and here, and according to this, it is clear that it is not appropriate to say about a certain date that is definitely a date of “beitta”, but at most one can assume that it is a “capable” date].   Maximum date for the messiah’s coming And according to what is known for sure beyond a doubt, that ‘Messiah’ will come before the sixth thousand year (i.e., before the year 6000, and we are now in 5782 [2022]) as interpreted in the talmud [15], and therefore the Hebrew calendar is determined by ‘hillel’ only until the end of the sixth thousand year [16],because by then, the ‘Sanhedrin’ will surely rise again and begin to determine the months according to evidence of ‘seeing the moon’ as it was during the Temple period. The redemption of “bietta” is on an unknown date that could be today or tomorrow or in a year and two years, or in ten years, but no more than 218 years from now (2022). And for several reasons the date of “bietta” cannot be at the end of the sixth thousand year, but a few years earlier. The ‘ramban’ sais, in his interpretation of ‘shir hashirim’ [18] , on the verse “ומאתים לנוטרים את פריו”, wrote that redemption would be at most two centuries before the sixth thousand year (i.e. the year 5800), and ‘rabbonu bechai’ [19] adds that even the letter ו’)) that precedes the word “two hundred” in the verse, came to tell us that 206 years before the resurrection (which will be in the sixth thousand year) should already be redemption at its time (i.e. at most in 5794). And the great kabbalist Rabbi Chaim Vital z”l [20]  adds further, that in true those “two hundred” years mentioned are not only the maximum date for redemption, but are the maximum date of “Tichyat hamatim”, which is already an advanced stage after the coming of the Messiah.   And here are some stages of the resurrection, initially there will be the resurrection of the righteous, and only after a certain time (a few years) will there be a general resurrection. And the Holy zohar [22]  brings two methods of when the resurrection of the righteous will be (i.e. when is the maximum date), according to Rabbi Yehuda was 5790 (i.e. another 8 years from now [2022]), and according to Rabbi Yitzhak is in the year 5786 (i.e. 4 years from now [2022]). However, there is doubt for whether the zohar is taking about the date of “beitta” (which is a deadline), or a “capable” date that depends on our rights, at which point one can “miss” the time. (And some have understood from the zohar that the intention of “beitta” [23], But it is not forced for them to say like them). But presumably, Since the Creator “hears the prayer of every mouth”, after the people of Israel throughout the ages prayed for salvation in tears and pleadings, it turns out that salvation will not come at the “last moment” of “beitta”, but long before the last date, so it must be assumed that salvation is not far away at all, in the future, but it is impossible to name any date, “and although it will linger with all this I will wait for him every day to come”[24]. And the rule is that every Jew must live with a sense of anticipation that will come at any moment [25] , and this is the mitzvah you have expected salvation every day. Sources

Question: Your Honor, I hear a lot of the talk about the coming of the Moshiach (‘Messiach’), which is close to come, and I wanted to understand more, when the coming of the ‘Messiach’ would be?

Answer combined with sources:

Two possibilities for redemption: 1- Beitta. 2- Achishena.

There are two possibilities for the redemption [1]: A. Redemption of “Achishena” is a redemption that comes due to the rights of the Jewish People, and such redemption does not depend on any date, and in any case can be immediately every day [2] , if they receive it. [And to receive it, one of the most important things is correcting the sin of “sinat henam” (free hatred) [3]. and there will be unity in the people of Israel.” B. If we have not gained redemption of “Achishena”, then there will be redemption “bietta” (at the time), which is a known date for the Creator, that on this date surely salvation will come whether we are worthy or not [4].

And although the signs mentioned in the Mishnah [8] about the period preceding the coming of the ‘Messiach’ are already in place, these signs do not indicate an exact date, only that the period is approaching.[9].

Option 3: Years that are capable of redemption.

And it is said in the holy books (from the ‘rishonim’ and ‘acharonim’[10]) many possible dates for redemption, but these dates were “capable” dates for redemption, meaning that they were not the last “timely” date, but rather it was dates that were more “easier” to win over the redemption of “Achishena”, which if the Jewish people were a little worthy for redemption, would have been redeemed.

Maximum date for the messiah’s coming

And according to what is known for sure beyond a doubt, that ‘Messiah’ will come before the sixth thousand year (i.e., before the year 6000, and we are now in 5782 [2022]) as interpreted in the talmud [15], and therefore the Hebrew calendar is determined by ‘hillel’ only until the end of the sixth thousand year [16],because by then, the ‘Sanhedrin’ will surely rise again and begin to determine the months according to evidence of ‘seeing the moon’ as it was during the Temple period.
