Some Laws on Women’s Modesty

Hello and greetings, Your questions are many and I will try to answer them in a short and clear way:

1. From the age of 11 years at the time, they reached the time of menstrual vision, and in general, they must be strict in hearing the voice of every girl and there is no division between his relative and another man.^[1]

2. From the age of six^[2], and everything depends on the appearance of the body. Even that there is poskim that are strict and say from the age of three, the custom of leniency until the age of six. But still words of Torah and blessings should not be said against a ‘tefach’ from the age of three.

3. If very little is revealed that a way that women are accustomed to discover, it is not at all a ‘ervah’, and it is permitted.^[3]

4. At home it is allowed and even when she is a nidah, and outside it is forbidden in places that the women covers themselves.^[4]

5. In the public domain this should not be permitted, but to the bone it is ok even in the public domain.^[5]

7. All that we have allowed to go into the public domain is the law also that it is permissible to bless against them and say kiriat shema and Tefilla. And also against the singing voice of a little girl, as well as against his wife’s feet at home.

[3] בשו”ע (סי’ עה סעיף ב’), שער של אשה שדרכה לכסותו, אסור לקרות ק”ש כנגדו, ואפילו פחות מטפח (8 ס”מ), כי בשיער לא נאמר שיעור טפח, ואע”ג שבשו”ת אגרות משה (או”ח ח”ד סי’ קיב, ואהע”ז סי’ נח) היקל עד טפח, מ”מ רבים מהפוסקים החמירו בזה, ראה בשו”ת תשובות והנהגות ח”א (סימן סב) ועוד,  אולם אם מגולה מעט כבר כתב הרמ”א (שם) שבמקום שדרך הנשים לגלות, ולהוציא השערות חוץ לצמתן, אין לחוש. והרי זה בכלל, וכ”כ בספר פסקי תשובות ח”א (עמ’ תרה), וע”ע בשו”ת יביע אומר ח”ו (או”ח סי’ יג).

[4] ראה במ”ב (סי’ עה ס”ק ד’), וכ”כ החזון איש (גנזי שערי ציון עמ’ כג)  שאם אין אנשים אחרים מותר, ובספר הליכות שלמה ה- תפלה (עמ’ רמא) התיר לאשה ללכת בגיל גרביים בביתה. ורק ברשות הרבים במקום שדרך הנשים לכסותו, אין להתיר דדינם כבמקומות המכוסים.
