הרב דוד אוחיון - ברכת אברהם משיב כהלכה
Country: ישראל

on: I’m a mechanic, and try to do my job faithfully, sometimes people come and ask me to sell them and install spare parts from a certain company. And sometimes I don’t have the spare parts from the company they ask for, but I have the same parts from another similar company, whose quality is just as good, and sometimes even better. The question is whether I am allowed to install spare parts for them from another company when they are just as good and do not cost less in terms of price?

:As far as the parts of a better company are concerned by all accounts, and if the buyer understood it or the buyer had inquired with others, he would surely prefer the better company, you may install the product to him from the better company. However, to the extent that it is doubtful or that the product you wish to provide, is not better ‘by all accounts’, you may not provide it with this product without prior consent. In any case as a recommendation, it is appropriate to inform the purchaser that you do not have the product from the company he is requesting but you have the same product from a better company, by doing so will deny yourself any claim, and going innocent will probably reside.   Sources

PLEASE NOTE*

Attention: You should not learn from one case to another, each case must be analyzed individually. Generally speaking, it's always best to have contact with a Rabbi in person, not just virtual contact. Note that where there is a local Rabbi("Mara Deatra"), one should ask him. The answers are under the responsibility of the rabbi who responded, and not under the responsibility of the website and/or the Head of the Institution.
