Question

Shalom Rav

Is it allowed to do the mitzvah before nightfall?

Thank you.

Answer

Hello & Greetings

The correct way according to the Torah is to have conjugal relations at night and not during the day, as is the way of the world. Moreover, the Talmud explains that keeping the commandments of the mitzvah during the day is considered obscene.

However, where there is a need, such as when one partner is very tired at night, or when at night there is a modesty problem, such as others sleeping with them, or in any other place of need, it is permissible to have conjugal relations during the day.

All this on condition that the room is dark, because it is forbidden to have conjugal relations in the light. Only a Torah scholar who knows how to be careful not to look, is allowed to have conjugal relations even in the light and on condition that he is careful to overshadow his cover.

Indeed, when conjugal relations are suitable for pregnancy, you must have do it only at night, since a soul that descends at conception during conception by day is not from a high place, like a soul that descends at night. And the kabbalists wrote that souls who descend into the world by day are nothing but reincarnated souls. Therefore, in any relationship worthy of conception, it is important to make sure that it is only at night.

Best regards
