on: Hi I always like to ask before naming my children if the name we want are good names. We were looking into Mia. מיה. Is this a fine name to name a baby girl? I see the geometric numbers are 55.

: Shalom  First of all, congratulations on the birth of your daughter!  A big and important thing is your carefulness to choose the names of your children, because the Sages really said that “the name of a person causes him”, a person’s name has a tremendous power of influence on his personality, and a person’s entire fortune and life depends on his name.  And it’s a shame that in our generation many call their sons and daughters according to what they think is a “beautiful” name, or so that others will say what a beautiful name you have chosen, because all of this is a valueless consideration compared to the good of the boy or girl, whose entire life depends on the effects of the name.  And here is the subject of reading the names. This is a complete Torah and it is impossible to write all the rules here because for such a thing you need a complete book according to the kaballah, because each letter affects in a different way.  But I will write the most important point in naming children, if you do that then chances are you have chosen an excellent name:  The main rule for choosing names is: to give the name of a righteous person (the name of a righteous man for a son, and the name of a righteous woman for a daughter), because in this way all spiritual and physical blessings are included.  Giving the name of a righteous person greatly affects the boy or girl, and this issue is really “critical”.  And as will be explained in the sources (and there it will also be revealed that if the name of a tzaddik is called, the soul of the tzaddik prays for that child, and for example if the name of Sarah our mother is called, Sarah our mother prays for the girl to have a good and happy life in this and the next, and such a blessing is priceless).  And of course all this after you have already called the names of your parents and your wife parents, and according to our custom of the Sfaradim, we call the name of  our parents when they are still alive.  And regarding the name “Miya” that you mentioned in the question,  it is one of the seventy-two holy names of God that come out of the verses in Parashat Beshelach (it is the 48th name from the 72th names), but it is not a name suitable for humans.  A girl with this name, according to the kaballah, may appear introverted, and this can create difficulties in finding a shiduch later on in her live.  And regarding the gematria “Hamsa Hamsa”, if you mean as protection against the evil eye, the first “Hamsa” the first letters (מי) has no benefit, since it is not a visible number, but the letter “ה’א” has a benefit, as indeed any name that has the letter “ה’א”  (such as Abraham, Sarah, and the like) has power against the evil eye and above all power for good fertility (as Maran hachida wrote in the book meDebar Kedom from 5:5. 7 ).  The name “Yosef” for a son and “Efrat” for a daughter are also excellent names against the evil eye, if that is the issue that is important to you (and of course one must be careful when reading the name “Yosef” after the name of the righteous Joseph, the son of our father Jacob, and when reading the name “Efrat” after  The name of Miriam the prophetess who used to be called olso by this name, see gemarah Sota, page 11a).  First of all, congratulations on the birth of your daughter!
