Question

Im trying to find out the rabbinical teachings of ahaziah being 22 and 42 during his reign?

Answer

Hello & Greetings

Your question is important, there is indeed a supposed contradiction in the words of the Bible that while in 2 Kings chapter 9 it is said that Ahaziah reigned twenty-two years old, while in 1 Kings chapter 22 it is described that the reign of Ahaziya was when he was forty-two years old.

And the answer to your question is, there were two different kings called Akhazia.

The first is: Ahaziah, king of Israel, who was the son of Ahab and Jezebel, and ruled over Israel for several months spread out in two different years, his reign is mentioned in 1 Kings chapter 22. His death is mentioned in 2 Kings chapter 1, verse 2, who died in a fall in his palace in Samaria.

The second is Akhazia, king of Judah, who was the son of Jehoram, and reigned about ten years later over Judah at the age of 22 years. King Ahaziah of Judah was killed after a very short period in the revolt of Jehu against Ahab and his family. As mentioned in 2 Kings chapter 9, verse 27.

Attention: You should not learn from one case to another, each case must be analyzed individually. Generally speaking, it's always best to have contact with a Rabbi in person, not just virtual contact. Note that where there is a local Rabbi("Mara Deatra"), one should ask him. The answers are under the responsibility of the rabbi who responded, and not under the responsibility of the website and/or the Head of the Institution.
