Question

Are mourners in the first 7 days of mourning allowed to get an aliyah on Shabbat since they are not sitting shiva?

Answer

For all customs, mourners do not ascend to the Torah on the Sabbat as it is forbidden to study Torah, and ” even thought there is no mourning on Sabbat, that is only specifically mourning in public, but mourning with in yourself is customary, including the prohibition of Torah study, , , .

Sources and reasoning:

ע”פ שו”ע (יו”ד סי’ ת סעיף א’) שרק אם קראו לו לעלות, יעלה לפי שאם יימנע יהיה בכך משום אבלות בפרהסיא, יעו”ש.

PLEASE NOTE*

Attention: You should not learn from one case to another, each case must be analyzed individually. Generally speaking, it's always best to have contact with a Rabbi in person, not just virtual contact. Note that where there is a local Rabbi("Mara Deatra"), one should ask him. The answers are under the responsibility of the rabbi who responded, and not under the responsibility of the website and/or the Head of the Institution.
