on: hello Rabbi.I sell furniture, A person come in to my store and made a big deal with me, the next week he came again in to the store and made a smaller deal with me, I was very kind whit him and lowered the price because he had made a big deal before. after a while  he canceled the big deal for a good reason. The question is, can I charge him a regular price for the smaller deal? It’s a way that at first I told him the discounted price was of the big deal..

: You did not write in your question whether the buyer had already made the payment for the small deal and received the consideration and the transaction ended, or if the buyer had not yet paid for the small deal, or if the buyer had paid but had not yet received the consideration. Therefore, I will detail the law in various possible situations: As the buyer paid for the small deal and received the proceeds, the deal ended and it is not possible to demand an additional payment, although it is clear that the cheap price is determined solely because of the large transaction. However, if the buyer has not yet paid for the small transaction, but you have agreed that he will pay the small transaction the low amount, you may tell him that you are not willing to sell the small transaction at the low price, since you have said that the low price is because of the large transaction. If the buyer paid but the goods were not provided to him, even though the transaction was not completed, since you received the money, you committed to give him the goods in return for that money, so you cannot retract and demand an additional payment for the transaction. See blessing in all your hands.   Sources

Question: hello Rabbi.I sell furniture, A person come in to my store and made a big deal with me, the next week he came again in to the store and made a smaller deal with me, I was very kind whit him and lowered the price because he had made a big deal before. after a while  he canceled the big deal for a good reason.

The question is, can I charge him a regular price for the smaller deal? It’s a way that at first I told him the discounted price was of the big deal..

Answer: You did not write in your question whether the buyer had already made the payment for the small deal and received the consideration and the transaction ended, or if the buyer had not yet paid for the small deal, or if the buyer had paid but had not yet received the consideration.

Therefore, I will detail the law in various possible situations:

  1. As the buyer paid for the small deal and received the proceeds, the deal ended and it is not possible to demand an additional payment, although it is clear that the cheap price is determined solely because of the large transaction.

  2. However, if the buyer has not yet paid for the small transaction, but you have agreed that he will pay the small transaction the low amount, you may tell him that you are not willing to sell the small transaction at the low price, since you have said that the low price is because of the large transaction.

  3. If the buyer paid but the goods were not provided to him, even though the transaction was not completed, since you received the money, you committed to give him the goods in return for that money, so you cannot retract and demand an additional payment for the transaction.

See blessing in all your hands.

Attention: You should not learn from one case to another, each case must be analyzed individually. Generally speaking, it's always best to have contact with a Rabbi in person, not just virtual contact. Note that where there is a local Rabbi("Mara Deatra"), one should ask him. The answers are under the responsibility of the rabbi who responded, and not under the responsibility of the website and/or the Head of the Institution.
