Question

Hello Rabbi,

I travel with family for the whole holiday so we don’t kasher the kitchen.

Can we cook potatoes and eggs in a pot of  chametz (not ben yomo) before the time of the prohibition of eating chametz, and eat until the Seder night.

What is the law?

Is there a source for this that is allowed to do so ?

Thank you very much

Answer

Peace and Blessings

Indeed, it is permissible to cook food in nonben yomo chametz pot, and to eat them after a time when it is forbidden to eat chametz on the eve of Passover..

However, you must be carfull not to eat what remains on Passover itself, since it gives flavor to a defect that is forbidden to eat to begin with in the opinion of the shulchan aruch, and especially in the opinion of the Ramah.

Wishing you a kosher and happy Passover

Rabbi David Ohayon
