on: Where in the Torah does it say that we must not sacrifice animals? Why isn’t it done today?

: The Torah says that it is forbidden to make sacrifices anywhere, but only in the temple is allowed. As the verse of Deuteronomy Chapter 12 verse 5 ” כִּ֠י אִֽם־אֶל־הַמָּק֞וֹם אֲשֶׁר־יִבְחַ֨ר ה’ אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶם֙ מִכָּל־שִׁבְטֵיכֶ֔ם לָשׂ֥וּם אֶת־שְׁמ֖וֹ שָׁ֑ם לְשִׁכְנ֥וֹ תִדְרְשׁ֖וּ וּבָ֥אתָ שָֽׁמָּה Indeed, when it comes to sacrificing sacrifices in the holy place and the temple, in the place of the ‘mezbaich’ in Jerusalem, it is permissible to make sacrifices there today, but there are some other Halachic problems. Such as not knowing where the exact place of the ‘mezbaich’ is, and like the problem that we do not have privileged ‘cohanim’, and we do not have the ashes of a red cow to purify the unclean and a few other problems that I will mention in the sources. My prayer is, that we will soon be privileged to make sacrifices in our holy house and our glory that will soon be built, amen. Rabbi David Ohayon Jerusalem holy city   Sources and reasoning

Answer:

The Torah says that it is forbidden to make sacrifices anywhere, but only in the temple is allowed. As the verse of Deuteronomy Chapter 12 verse 5 “ כִּ֠י אִֽם־אֶל־הַמָּק֞וֹם אֲשֶׁר־יִבְחַ֨ר ה’ אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶם֙ מִכָּל־שִׁבְטֵיכֶ֔ם לָשׂ֥וּם אֶת־שְׁמ֖וֹ שָׁ֑ם לְשִׁכְנ֥וֹ תִדְרְשׁ֖וּ וּבָ֥אתָ שָֽׁמָּה

Indeed, when it comes to sacrificing sacrifices in the holy place and the temple, in the place of the ‘mezbaich’ in Jerusalem, it is permissible to make sacrifices there today, but there are some other Halachic problems.

Attention: You should not learn from one case to another, each case must be analyzed individually. Generally speaking, it's always best to have contact with a Rabbi in person, not just virtual contact. Note that where there is a local Rabbi("Mara Deatra"), one should ask him. The answers are under the responsibility of the rabbi who responded, and not under the responsibility of the website and/or the Head of the Institution.
