Question

Does a son have to go and bury his father or mother in Eretz Israel, and leave his mother or father alone at shiva in their home abroad?

Answer

mourningAlthough the son must take care of the burial of his father and mother in the most respectful manner, and therefore the sons go up and pay their last respects in the burial of their father and mother, but still the dignity of life is preferable to the honor of the dead, and therefore if your mother or father remains alone in their country, it is better that he stay with them and send the deceased by messenger and take care of all the burial needs in the best possible way.

Attention: You should not learn from one case to another, each case must be analyzed individually. Generally speaking, it's always best to have contact with a Rabbi in person, not just virtual contact. Note that where there is a local Rabbi("Mara Deatra"), one should ask him. The answers are under the responsibility of the rabbi who responded, and not under the responsibility of the website and/or the Head of the Institution.
