Question

I wasn’t frum for a while and didn’t go to the Mikva twice and didn’t tell my husband about it because I didn’t want him to push me into it. This happened many years ago and I am a much better more honest person and I am terribly pained that I was intimate with my husband without letting him know that I didn’t go to the Mikva. Is there any way I can do teshuva?

Answer

First of all, the very act of teshuva and soul digging is greatly exalted to the very correction of this terrible defect, even what you will try to be better in purity and being clean for seven days according to religion and proper, is useful for the correction of sin.

It is very correct to give charity against forty days of Lent against every time you didn’t go to the mikvah and fail your husband, and a cost of a meal of bread and a dip for one day is enough (which is about 4 NIS per dayx40 days).

It is also correct to make a “Tikun karet” for those who know how to do so.

And also to take Avrach ben Torah for a fee to study Torah all night (and it is good to have it on Thursday nights), against every time you didn’t go to the mikvah.

And if you are healthy in your body and you can fast a whole day, and multiply in prayer with Psalms on the day you fast, it will be of great benefit to atonement.

And the good Lord will not prevent good for innocent walkers.

Best regards

Rabbi Meir Pinchasi

(By the way, for a study by an Avrach and Pidyon fast, it can be done on our website “meshiv kahalach” – by one of the most important Torah scholars in the Kollel).

Attention: You should not learn from one case to another, each case must be analyzed individually. Generally speaking, it's always best to have contact with a Rabbi in person, not just virtual contact. Note that where there is a local Rabbi("Mara Deatra"), one should ask him.
