Historical Letter from Rav Kanievsky to Bircat Avraham Donors.
Not simply a blessing, a statement of certainty!
Bircat Avraham supports “avrechim” (humble and wise scholars who devote their entire day to Torah study), providing a thousand dollars per month (with a few bonuses) to each of the “avrechim” and their families – the bare minimum required to support these families so the avrechim can fully devote themselves to their learning. We devised “Issachar Vezevulun” contracts for this sponsorship, under which everyone that provides support to a scholar obtains the merit of the Torah study as if he had studied it himself. Due to the importance of this project, the great Tsadik Rav Chaim Kanievsky Shelita wrote a letter promising donors a great reward. The letter is available in the video below, where Rav Kanievsky assures that anyone who donates the aforementioned amount will undoubtedly have great success in their businesses.
There is a distinction between a Tsadik’s blessing and his “assertion.” According to our sages (Tractate of Moed Katan 17B), G-d “fulfills” everything that a great Tsadik “decrees” in this world. However, we should clarify that Rav Kanievsky’s assertion does not necessarily imply that temporary highs and lows are impossible, but rather that the aforementioned contributor will be highly successful in his businesses, as declared and signed by the Rav. We at Bircat Avraham avoid “promising” any kind of a blessing because we can’t know what G-d has in store for us or what His “accounts” are with each individual. Nonetheless, the message that Rav Kanievsky delivered, especially for Bircat Avraham contributors, is under the responsibility of the great Tsadik. Who are we to dismiss his words? This is an incredible “gift” from the Tsadik, available only to Bircat Avraham donors. Note that Rav Kanievsky’s grandchildren stated that their grandfather never wrote a letter like this to any institution.
After the Rav wrote the letter, we asked: “The Rav has guaranteed a huge blessing of success to anyone who supports one avrech; what about someone who supports two avrechim?”
“The blessing is doubled,” he replied. (And so on, according to the number of avrechim.) The event was documented and can be seen in the video above.
Two years later, Rav Chaim’s letter was signed by other “Gedole Israel” (great sages of Israel), making this the most powerful blessing in the world. Those who contribute to Bircat Avraham and sponsor the assistance for an avrech have a guarantee signed by nearly all of the generation’s great sages to have great success in their businesses. Aside from the unmatched blessing, the merit of sponsoring these students is incomparable, as Torah learning is the greatest of all merits (Mishna Pea 1:1). The students at Bircat Avraham are all carefully selected (approximately one out of every 40 applicants). They will be the next great Sages of Israel, enlightening the generation with G-d’s help.
