The laws of Maaser Kesafim (the Monetary Tithe)
Summary of the Tithing laws on Financial Income (Ma’asrot, Tzedakah, etc.) How much should a person donate of their profits
on: We live the u.s. and we want to contribute and donate to Avrachim who will learn Torah. Should we prefer to hold Avrachim where we live, or is it better to hold Avrachim in Eretz Yisrael?
: Donors living in the u.s. should also prefer holding Avrachim in Eretz Yisrael over holding Avrachim in the u.s. As described below in the sources. But of course you should try not to neglect the Avrachim in the u.s. as well. Accordingly, it is certainly not to avoid contributing to the Avrachim of Eretz yisrael by claiming that “your city’s poor are first”, which is a mistake for the reasons that will be explained in the sources below. And long ago the great rabbi’s of Israel (such as Rabbi Akiva and others) traveling from Eretz yisrael abroad to raise money for the poor of the Land of Israel (even though in those places abroad were also poor residents). All but for Avrachim, such as the Kollel Of Bircat Avraham in Jerusalem, who are great talmiday chachamim, that according to Din, they should be given priority to their possession over the possession of Avrachim elsewhere. PLEASE NOTE*
Attention: You should not learn from one case to another, each case must be analyzed individually. Generally speaking, it's always best to have contact with a Rabbi in person, not just virtual contact. Note that where there is a local Rabbi("Mara Deatra"), one should ask him. The answers are under the responsibility of the rabbi who responded, and not under the responsibility of the website and/or the Head of the Institution.
