Question

Is it permitted to remove decorations and fabric sheets from the sukkah when one did not stipulate concerning them before the festival of Sukkot? This is quite common during Sukkot, when rain accumulates and falls, and many people do not think to make a stipulation regarding the sukkah decorations beforehand.

Answer

It is permitted to remove sukkah decorations where there is concern that they may be damaged or lost, such as due to rainfall, theft, a fire hazard, and the like, even if one did not stipulate concerning them before the festival. However, it is not proper to remove them without need.

Attention: You should not learn from one case to another, each case must be analyzed individually. Generally speaking, it's always best to have contact with a Rabbi in person, not just virtual contact. Note that where there is a local Rabbi("Mara Deatra"), one should ask him. The answers are under the responsibility of the rabbi who responded, and not under the responsibility of the website and/or the Head of the Institution.
