Question

Is it permitted to mail a letter on the eve of Shabbat abroad, in a place where there is an eruv? My question is due to what Pnei Yehoshua says in section 257, paragraph 3, at the end, which states: “The current postal service is designated by the king for his needs and for the needs of ministers and merchants, and it operates regularly.” A Jew can also deliver a letter to him, possibly without any payment. And it is known that it is not possible to deliver a letter there unless one goes on Shabbat. However, it is not considered as your messenger, as mentioned there.” And there is still the question of whether there is a difference if the letter was sent within the limit (of the eruv) or outside its limit?

Answer

Although, according to the laws of speaking to a non-Jew, there is room to be permissive in placing a letter in the mailbox even on the day of Shabbat itself (where there is an eruv), it is still a matter of dishonor and devaluation of Shabbat, and most of the time there is a prohibition against preparing from Shabbat for the week. And see details about all this in the sources.

Attention: You should not learn from one case to another, each case must be analyzed individually. Generally speaking, it's always best to have contact with a Rabbi in person, not just virtual contact. Note that where there is a local Rabbi("Mara Deatra"), one should ask him.
