Yesterday I made spaghetti in a meat pot and stirred it with a wooden spoon that I had also used to stir meat I prepared in a separate frying pan. This morning, my daughter heated the spaghetti in a dairy pot. I cannot say whether the spaghetti she heated contained pieces of meat. The last time I cooked something dairy in this pot was more than a week ago. Has the pot become non-kosher? If so, is there a way to kosher it? At the moment, I washed it and filled it with boiling water.
It is proper to kosher the pot as a precaution. This may be done in one of the following two ways: (a) Fill the dairy pot to the brim with water and bring it to a boil on the stove until it reaches a full boil. However, since the boiling water must also reach the upper walls of the pot, once it reaches a boil, move it slightly toward the sides of the pot, or alternatively pour boiling water from a boiling kettle so that the boiling water spills over the sides of the pot. (b) Simply place the empty pot in the oven for approximately 20 minutes at the highest temperature, after the oven has begun to heat up.
In either case, the pot should then be rinsed with cold water.
In any event, the spaghetti is not forbidden to eat, since the dairy pot had not been used within the previous 24 hours.
