Question

Hello

I have a silver kiddush cup.

Is it possible to use it on Passover, or is it necessary to kasher it, or buy a new one for Passover?

Thank you

Answer

Hello and blessings

A kiddush cup that has not been used for hot beverages, but only for wine or grape juice, can be used on Passover, including on the night of the Seder, after being washed and cleaned with cold water, and does not need kasherization or any other preparation.

However, if it happened that you accidentally used it for hot drinks, in that case, according to the opinion of the Sephardim, it does not need kasherization, but according to the opinion of the Ashkenazim, it does need kasherization.

With best regards

Rabbi David Ohayon
