Question

Hello, rabbi

Do cleaning products need kashrut for Passover?

It seems ridiculous to me to buy kosher bleach for Passover if bleach is used to destroy crumbs of leaven…

Thank you

Answer

Hello and blessings

In fact, cleaning products that are not fit for consumption, and that even a dog wouldn’t eat, do not need certification for Passover, because even if they are chametz, they are not prohibited.

Although one should not mock those who buy kosher cleaning products for Passover, as the custom of the people of Israel is to be strict and seek all stringency and good practice to distance themselves from the remote fear of chametz during Passover, as written in the Shulchan Aruch, one should not mock those who make an effort to clean the walls for Passover.

Sincerely
