Question

Hello, rabbi

I wanted to ask if the disposable aluminum trays bought in stores need to be immersed in a mikveh for utensils?

I heard that this is Rabbi Ovadia Yosef’s opinion on this, is it true?

Thank you

Respuesta

Hello and welcome

Rabbinic authorities (poskim) disagree on the issue of disposable metal utensils, such as aluminum trays, disposable grills, etc., regarding whether they require ritual immersion.

The opinion of Igrot Moshe, Minchat Yitzhak, and also Or Lezion, among others, is that disposable utensils do not need immersion, as they do not have the status of utensils since they are not intended for repeated use.

However, the opinion of Rav Ovadia Yosef zt”l, Shvut Yaakov, Tzitz Eliezer, and others is that even disposable metal utensils require immersion, as they are suitable for repeated use by themselves.

Therefore, it is important that buyers of disposable forms check if they are produced by a company in Israel and not imported from abroad.

Sincerely
