Question

May I attend a shabbat meal in a kosher restaurant honoring my nephew while I am in morning?

Answer

A mourner is forbidden to attend a friend’s meal and a cheering party during the entire mourning period, even after the ‘shivah’.

Therefore, if the meal is a Shabbat meal for the mourners, who have not found another place to hold it and therefore eat in a restaurant, you are allowed to participate in it, of course if it does not violate Shabbat, God forbid.

However, if the meal is a family gathering meal organized by your nephew, you are not allowed to attend, because it is considered a friends feast, and the mourner must not participate in it.

With the blessing “From heaven you will be comforted and you will not add pain any more”

Attention: You should not learn from one case to another, each case must be analyzed individually. Generally speaking, it's always best to have contact with a Rabbi in person, not just virtual contact. Note that where there is a local Rabbi("Mara Deatra"), one should ask him.
